SONAKHORKE CHOCHORI


Chochori is a very common dish in Bengali family. We eat various Chochoris almost every day. Sonakhorke machh is rarely found in the market. Yesterday, I went to the fish market and found a very little amount of Sonakhorke machh there. Bought it. Tried a basic dish using Sonakhorke. 

The more you eat chuno machh (small fish) the more nutrition you gain. Small fish, big nutrition value.

INGREDIENTS: (Serves 3)
  • Sonakhorke Machh: 100gm
  • Onion: 2 finely chopped
  • Potato: 2 sliced
  • Tomato: 1 chopped
  • Garlic: 5-6 cloves
  • Chilly: 3-4 slit
  • Panch Phoron
  • Mustard Oil for frying and cooking
  • Water
  • Salt as per taste
  • Turmeric powder

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Wash the Sonakhorke fish properly in running water. 
  2. Marinate with turmeric powder and salt.
  3. Heat oil in a pan.
  4. Fry the fishes till light brown.
  5. Take it out of the pan and keep aside.
  6. Now, in the same pan add Panchphoron and chilly.
  7. When they start to splutter add onion and garlic and stir.
  8. Then add potato and tomato and saute.
  9. Sprinkle salt and turmeric while cooking.
  10. Now, cover ta pan and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  11. Sprinkle some water to prevent potatoes from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  12. Now, add the fried fish and stir slowly. 
  13. Add some sugar and cover the pan for 2-3 minutes or till the potato is tender.
  14. Your Sonakhorke Chochori is ready to serve.

NB: You can try with different small fishes like Mourala Machh, Puti Machha etc. You can add chopped coriander for better flavor. You can add different vegetables to your dish. Tasting your food before serving is the most important part of cooking. If you don't know the flavor of a particular dish then you can never cook a perfect dish.
